四海为学 Collaborative Learning

a philosophy lecture and seminar series promoting collaborative learning across cultures.

Misunderstandings between cultures threaten international stability. It’s a global problem that requires intercultural cooperation.

Our mission is to create better intercultural understanding, as well as foster cooperative spaces where meaningful engagements can happen despite differences.

Our lectures and seminars are specifically designed for intercultural cooperation.

We have brought some of the leading scholars of Chinese and comparative philosophy together for unique lecture and seminar series.

Everyone is welcome. Scholars, graduate students, and undergraduate students from any discipline are encouraged to join. We only ask for serious non-selfish attitudes, and a willingness to be presented with what might seem strange. Lectures and seminars by the 四海为学 “Collaborative Learning” program are free to anyone.

Active engagement

人能弘道,非道弘人

People can broaden the way, the way does not broaden people.

— Confucius

This unique series of lectures hosted by the Center for Intercultural Learning and the School of Philosophy at East China Normal University (ECNU) brings together prominent scholars and graduate students from around the world, promoting learning and collaborative study. Audience members are invited to additional discussion sessions.

讲座 Lecture Series

Our seminars are designed to encourage intercultural engagement. Here 四海为学 or “Collaborative Learning” means bringing together students from around the world under the guidance of some of the most innovative researchers. Through regular communication geared towards mutual flourishing, and inspired by the intellectual humility of classical thinkers, we learn with and from one another.
